Introducing PSP’s Industrial Talent Assessment Platform: Talent Insights for Industrial Work, Simplified

Hiring for industrial roles has never been more complex, and the stakes have never been higher. Talent Acquisition teams are stretched.

Introducing PSP’s Industrial Talent Assessment Platform: Talent Insights for Industrial Work, Simplified

Hiring for industrial roles has never been more complex, and the stakes have never been higher. Talent Acquisition teams are stretched. Operations leaders are navigating skills gaps, safety risks, and nonstop production demands. HR teams are under pressure to ensure hiring tools are compliant, fair, and scientifically sound, often without clear insights into their true impact or risk.

Across Energy & Utilities, Manufacturing, and Construction, leaders are asking for the same thing: a simpler, more objective way to hire people who will perform in demanding environments.

PSP Metrics is answering that need with the launch of a new Industrial Talent Assessment Platform, delivering modernized, role-specific hiring assessments to evaluate talent across critical industrial roles.

A Platform Purpose-Built for Industrial Hiring

Industrial organizations are being asked to do more with less. Experienced workers are retiring. Skills requirements are rising. Safety and quality expectations remain nonnegotiable. Hiring timelines are shrinking while hiring mistakes are costlier than ever.

The Industrial Talent Assessment Platform empowers teams to evaluate candidates quickly, consistently, and confidently by delivering assessments that measure:

Problem Solving and Technical Aptitude

Dependability and Work Habits

Safety Judgment and Risk Awareness

Motivation and Behavioral Tendencies

Realistic Job Scenarios and Situational Judgment

Experience-Based Indicators

Role-Specific Mechanical, Electrical, or Quantitative Knowledge

Instead of asking “Can this person do the job?” PSP’s whole-person approach helps answer “Will they perform, stay, and grow in this role, on this team, in this environment?”

The modernized platform makes it simple to deliver assessments, review results, compare candidates, and make hiring decisions rooted in data rather than guesswork. It’s built on the same scientific foundation PSP has been trusted for since 1946, now supporting today’s hiring reality.

Powered by a Modernized Assessment Offering

Organizations will now have access to PSP’s updated suite of hiring assessments across eight critical job families:

Customer Service Representative

Energy System Operator

Maintenance Technician

Sales Representative

Engineer

Manufacturing Operator

Software and Systems Specialist

General Manufacturing and Production

Each assessment is grounded in industrial job demands and validated with real-world performance data, driving a higher degree of confidence in every hiring decision.

Real Impact on Retention, Safety, and Productivity

Organizations using PSP’s assessments achieve:

Lower turnover

Reduced safety incidents

Faster time to productivity

More consistent, defensible hiring decisions

Stronger internal pipelines for future roles

Every insight is tied directly to the metrics that matter most in industrial operations.

See the Industrial Talent Assessment Platform in Action

While voluntary turnover has declined from pandemic highs of nearly 25% to around 13% this year, replacing those who leave remains costly and time-consuming.

Critical roles get filled faster, training investments go further, and your best people see a future inside the company instead of outside it.

Key Insight #1: Skills-Based Hiring Is Gaining Ground

At least 20 U.S. states have eliminated bachelor’s degree requirements for many government jobs, and Fortune 500 companies are following suit. This reflects a broader movement toward evaluating candidates based on competencies rather than credentials. With fewer traditional entry-level roles available, companies are mapping adjacent skills to open up new pathways for talent – especially in frontline and skilled trade roles.

Key Insight #2: Internal Mobility Is the Secret Weapon

Companies like Amazon and Great Wolf Lodge are investing heavily in internal mobility programs that upskill existing employees into higher-value roles. This approach reduces churn, boosts engagement, and creates career pathways for frontline workers – especially when paired with manager enablement strategies that turn supervisors into career coaches. Despite 73% of organizations recognizing the importance of reinventing the manager role, only 7% are making real progress, making this a critical area of focus.

Key Insight #3: Technology Is Accelerating the Shift, Verification Remains a Priority

Modern HR platforms are transforming how companies implement skills-based hiring and internal mobility. AI-powered tools now enable career pathing, intelligent talent marketplaces, and automated candidate engagement—helping HR teams identify adjacent skills, match employees to roles, and personalize the candidate experience at scale. In 2025, AI agents are increasingly handling sourcing, scheduling, and ranking tasks, making hiring faster and more consistent. While skills-based hiring continues to get traction, verifying a candidate’s inferred skills through assessment remains a priority. As adoption grows, HR leaders are also prioritizing ethical AI use and maintaining human oversight to ensure fairness and transparency.

HR as the Catalyst for Skills-Based Transformation

The transition to skills-based hiring isn’t just a technology upgrade—it’s a mindset shift. HR teams can lead the charge by embedding skills verification into hiring, promotion, and training processes. When HR enables managers to act as talent developers, the result is stronger teams, faster role fulfillment, and a more resilient workforce.

Skills-Based Hiring Checklist Download

To help industrial leaders put these ideas into practice, we’ve created a Skills-Based Hiring Checklist – a practical tool to evaluate your current strategy and identify opportunities for improvement. Download the Checklist Here.

About PSP Metrics

At PSP Metrics, we help industrial companies operationalize skills-based hiring and internal mobility. Our tools don’t just verify core and adjacent skills – they drive measurable outcomes. In manufacturing environments, our assessments have helped reduce turnover by up to 50%, while high-volume operational roles have seen internal promotion rates increase by more than 30%. By shifting the focus from titles to competencies – and certifying that candidates have the skills required to be successful – we help companies close skills gaps, retain top talent, and build resilient, future-ready teams.

Frontline Fatigue: The Hidden Cost of Burnout in Industrial Teams – and How HR Can Lead the Fix

In 2025, burnout isn’t just a buzzword—it’s the silent productivity killer on the shop floor and the job site. When frontline managers burn out, crews disengage, safety slips, and turnover spikes. According to The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), nearly half of employees cite unmanageable workloads, and 40% point to poor leadership as a major stressor. In industries like Energy, Manufacturing, and Construction, where frontline supervisors hold operations together, preventing burnout is no longer optional—it’s mission critical.

Key Insight #1: Burnout Is Cultural, Not Just About Hours

Long shifts don’t cause burnout on their own—workplace culture does. As Forbes puts it, leaders either “feed the wolf of toxic culture” or the one of “clarity, simplicity, and purpose.” When managers feel pressured to hit daily targets without support or voice in decisions, small frustrations compound into chronic stress. Ignore these cultural drivers, and you risk losing your most valuable people.

Key Insight #2: Managers Are Overloaded and Under Supported

Gartner research shows managers are now expected to coach, communicate, and drive change—all while running daily operations. Most, however, receive little training and almost no feedback. The result: disengagement, missed opportunities, and eventually turnover.

Key Insight #3: Leadership Development Isn’t a Perk – It’s Protection

Especially in industrial sectors, where safety, morale, and retention depend on strong supervisors, leadership development is a business safeguard. Companies that invest in it see higher performance and lower attrition. Yet only 25% of organizations have a formal leadership development strategy in place—a dangerous gap in high-pressure environments.

How HR Can Lead the Fix

The solution isn’t to replace burned-out managers but to equip them. HR leaders have the opportunity to strengthen the frontline by spotting hidden leadership potential, addressing skill gaps, and building resilient pipelines.

At PSP Metrics, we partner with HR leaders to do just that. Our validated assessments and leadership tools uncover strengths, pinpoint upskilling needs, and provide a clear roadmap for development. Designed for the realities of industrial work, our approach helps organizations reduce turnover, elevate safety, and create frontline teams that thrive under pressure.

Strategic Workforce Planning in Industrial Sectors: Why HR Can’t Afford to Wait

In 2025, strategic workforce planning is no longer a “nice to have”—it’s a business imperative. According to Gartner, only 15% of organizations engage in true strategic workforce planning. For HR leaders in Energy, Utilities, Manufacturing, and Construction, this gap can lead to costly misalignment between talent supply and business demand—especially as AI, retirements, and skill shortages reshape the labor landscape.

Key Insight #1: The Planning Gap Is Widening

Most companies still rely on outdated headcount-based planning. Gartner’s 2025 HR Trends report reveals that this limits agility and leaves organizations vulnerable to talent shortages.

Key Insight #2: AI and Scenario Planning Are Game Changers

AI is transforming how companies forecast talent needs. According to Forbes, leading organizations are using AI to model workforce scenarios, identify future skill gaps, and optimize hiring strategies.

Key Insight #3: Internal Mobility and Inclusion Are Strategic Levers

Gartner emphasizes that organizations embedding internal mobility and inclusion into workforce planning are more resilient and better positioned to adapt. In industrial sectors, where frontline labor is aging and hard to replace, tapping into internal talent pools is a competitive advantage.

At PSP Metrics, we help HR and Operations leaders in industrial sectors align talent strategy with business goals—starting with the data. Our predictive assessments and workforce analytics give you visibility into leadership potential, emerging skill gaps, and team dynamics. This insight empowers proactive workforce planning, internal mobility strategies, and smarter hiring—so you’re ready for 2026 and beyond.

Ready to future-proof your workforce? Get our Workforce Planning Checklist and start planning for 2026.

Scott brings a proven track record of building and scaling talent assessment businesses, combining deep industry expertise with strong leadership as PSP enters its next phase of growth.

Scott began his career as a consultant with SHL/CEB/Gartner, where he advised organizations on improving workforce performance through employee selection, performance management, and organizational design. He advanced to Managing Director, leading regional operations, overseeing consulting teams, and driving strategic growth initiatives.

In 2002, Scott co-founded Shaker International, where he helped grow the company into one of the most respected assessment and hiring technology firms. Under his leadership, Shaker—and later Modern Hire—developed scalable service and delivery models that supported global enterprise clients. He spearheaded the creation of award-winning, data-driven hiring solutions that aligned talent strategies with business outcomes and delivered measurable ROI.

Over the years, Scott guided the company through multiple economic cycles, expanded its product suite, and consistently achieved double-digit growth. His leadership helped position the business for its successful acquisition by HireVue.

“PSP has a long and respected history helping organizations make better talent decisions, and I’m honored to lead the company into its next phase of growth,” said Scott Goodman. “We’re building on a strong foundation of science-backed talent assessments while modernizing our products and technology to better serve today’s workforce needs.”

“Scott brings a unique combination of entrepreneurial energy, data-driven thinking, and commercial and operational discipline,” said Brendan Anderson, Managing Partner at ScaleCo. “His experience scaling assessment companies and passion for excellence make him an ideal fit to lead PSP into its next chapter.”
